AGGRESSIVE DOG BREEDS? REALLY…

Over the centuries humans have selectively bred dogs for both physical and behavioral traits.

Sometimes the goal was to achieve a loyal, strong, dog with stamina and intelligence that could be taken into war, or employed as a guard dog.

It is humanity that has created all of these breeds yet it is humanity that mishandles them, disrespecting the dog’s needs and requirements and when things go wrong it is the dog that is blamed, it is the breed that is blamed.

So many dogs have been put to death needlessly, while the humans who altered the dog's natural, balanced state of being, walks away; never taking any responsibility for what they have done.

Some breeds have been completely stigmatized. The best example is probably the Pit Bull.

Other breeds although not so utterly condemned have been similarly stigmatized as aggressive and not to be trusted.

For example the German Shepherd and Rottweiler, Dobermans and Boxers...the list includes many.

So what is really wrong with these breeds - nothing.
They may have amazing compressive jaw strength, superior overall body strength and astounding agility, intelligence, sensitivity, oh yes and trainability.

And therein lays the problem.

When the wrong people, for the wrong reasons acquire these beautiful animals - the nature of who they were supposed to be, is disrupted.  The dog is taught to use its natural abilities for harm instead of good. The dog has little choice and the human has powerful tools (cruelty, abuse to name a few) to ensure compliance. Then the dog is called bad and aggressive. When in fact it is the human who is bad and aggressive, lacks ethics, morals, sensitivity and the ability to delineate between right and wrong - warped really.

Invariably it is the dog who suffers most, misunderstood, euthanized - what was the point of its being born? Only to suffer and not live to its true potential; blocked from its natural inclination to share and love. And the human who has created such injustice, walks away to obtain another dog to warp.

Humans that have dedicated their time to working with dogs whose natural state has been compromised (by adverse treatment at the hands of other humans) know from direct experience that the dog is not to blame and that almost all dogs can with patience, respect, persistence and the right knowledge be returned to their original balanced state of being.

My Boxer Robbie is one such example
